Boreal officials say the resort is opening with a base of 6 to 12 inches of snow and will remain open as long as conditions permit. Boreal, located along Interstate 80 atop Donner Summit, traditionally is the first ski resort to open for the season in California.

These photos were snapped by Reno photographer Scott Hinton on Sunday, October 31, on his way back home to Reno. “The snow is thin still at Boreal but maybe something for early ski season excitement,” Hinton said.
